"Privacy" means different things to different people, but the Privacy Act applies to every person, business and organisation in New Zealand. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner works across business, government and the public to develop and promote a culture in which personal information is protected and respected.
2020 will be an exciting year for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, with the Privacy Bill expected to be passed by Parliament.
Our Policy Team is looking for Policy/Senior Policy Advisers to replace departing colleagues. We're a small but tight team of seven that provides advice to both government and the private sector. We lead thinking about the privacy implications of new initiatives, including in new technologies, and examine practices, policies and new legislation for its effect on privacy. As a Policy/Senior Policy Adviser in our team you will have a unique opportunity to work a broad reaching and highly topical area, within a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
To succeed in this role you will need a keen interest in privacy issues, have an inquisitive mind, value intellectual rigour, and have the desire to grow in what is a challenging role.
You will ideally have:
- 2-6 years' post-qualification experience, preferably within a policy or privacy environment;
- Excellent analytical skills;
- Great self-management skills;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to form effective, collaborative working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, across the organisation and other agencies, and with the general public;
- An understanding of the machinery of government, including the passage of legislation; and
- A desire to make a real impact on the lives of New Zealanders.
We are also particularly interested in candidates who may have a background in regulatory compliance or experience with the health sector.
You will have access to ongoing training opportunities to fully utilise and develop your skills and experience.
